Pocket SLP
Pocket SLP is an iPhone application for speech and language pathologists (SLP). The product was designed by two practicing SLPs in New Mexico. Most SLPs make extensive use of card decks, which are packaged as a series of cards with graphical images. They are used like flash cards, where the SLP shows the cards one at a time to the client and asks him/her to say the word.
These cards are used for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Most SLPs carry a large supply of these in a brief case or carry bag. Pocket SLP is intended to eliminate the need to carry the physical cards and it serves to further engage young clients who are typically enthralled with using an iPhone of iPod Touch.
While some SLPs have begun using some early education flash card type applications, there are currently none that are geared specifically to this sector. Initial target market will be to practicing SLPs, graduate educators in the field, and finally to the consumer market for parents of children with speech and language disorders.
